Marie A. (Mayberry) Carroll, age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away early on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, 2026, surrounded by her family at Gilpin Hall.

Born in Wilmington, DE on August 15, 1938, she was a daughter of the late James F. and Margaret (Moran) Mayberry. Later, Marie worked at Holy Spirit School’s Latch Key program and the cafeteria at Delcastle High School. She then was available for grandchildren.

Marie was a member of the BVM Sodality, choir and minister of Holy Communion at Holy Spirit Church. She especially loved bringing communion to the sick. As a member of the Parish Caring Friends group, she sent greeting cards and condolences to church members and beyond. With her husband, she enjoyed visits to De La Warr, Weston, and New Castle Senior Centers in their later years. In February 2024 they made a home at Gilpin Hall surrounded by a caring staff and additions to their “family.”

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Ann (1967); sister, Peggy Casson (Butch); brother-in-law, Lance Gallant; and father and mother-in-law, Norman F. and Pauline Carroll. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Norman W. Carroll; children, Colleen Borgia (Joseph), James, Fr. Norm, Patrick (Stephen Powers), and Joseph (Erin); brother, John Mayberry (Mary Ann); sister, Patricia Gallant; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hastings (Doug); grandchildren, Lisa, Kelly and Joseph Borgia and Megan, Matthew and Finnigan Carroll; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the church. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE.
