Marie E. McCormick

September 27, 1936 - January 26, 2021

Marie E. McCormick, age 84, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

Born in Wilmington, DE on September 27, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Mary Margaret (Giordano) Dorso. Marie loved rooting for the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles. She was a queen of the slots, and had many good times with her sons at the Brandywine Races. Marie also enjoyed going on cruises with her husband in addition to doting on her children and grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She had a presence that would light up any room, and her laughter would fill your heart. Marie will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit and dedication to her family.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her sister, Joanna Sebastian and Grandmom Dorso. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Eugene “Gene” McCormick; children, Michael Lukaszewicz (Gail) of Newark, Mark Lukaszewicz (Jacque) of Townsend, Stanley Lukaszewicz (Patty) of New Castle, Gina Czajkowski (Kenneth) of Bear, Gene McCormick and Lynne Carr, both of Wilmington; brother, Louis Dorso (Veronica); 17 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

  • My special cousin, I will always remember that beautiful smile and delightful laugh. I am so very sorry we won’t get a chance to have that long, sit-down chat you spoke of at Christmas. Our Mothers were very close as shown by your Mom naming your sister, JoAnna , and my Mom naming me, Mary Margaret. Though separated by miles over the years, nevertheless that closeness was passed onto us. You are irreplaceable my dear cousin and will be sorely missed. Rest in peace. I love you.
My thoughts and prayers are with your husband Gene, your brother Louie, your children, and grandchildren.
