Marion Simpson Raczkowski - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Marion Simpson Raczkowski

September 10, 1959 - May 13, 2025

Marion Simpson Raczkowski, age 65, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

Born in Wilmington, DE on September 10, 1959, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Lawrence Simpson, Jr.  and Joan Anna (Johnson) Simpson. Marion was a graduate of Claymont High School with the class of 1978. She worked for various local businesses over the years, including HSBC Bank in customer relations, and Sum R Fun Pool Co., as the manager and chemical technician. She continued to keep active as she left a more professional atmosphere to ease into retirement by working at Claymont Steak Shop and Darley Pharmacy. She was well known by many in the Claymont area and a true “Claymonster” at heart. If you knew her in the “70’s”, you either went to school with her, she delivered your newspaper or she babysat you.

Marion was very social and enjoyed playing in a Pool league. She was also a member of the Brandywine Club at the Knights of Columbus for many years. Marion possessed an uncanny knack for connecting with many friends and family on a psychic level, one way or another. It wasn’t unusual for her to “know” you were going to call or “get a feeling” about a private part of your past. She was well known for being extremely generous, with both her time and her possessions.

Marion is survived by her husband, Anthony “Tony” Raczkowski; daughter, Rose Cross (Jenn); siblings, JoAnn Keen (Kevin), Beverly Simpson, John Simpson, and Larry Simpson (Cheryl); sister-in-law, Deb; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her older brother, Hebert Lawrence III. Marion and Tony raised Tony’s great-grandson Brendan, who preceded her as well.

A celebration of life will be held at the Brandywine Club at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marion’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA  22116-7023 or online by clicking here.

  • Pardon and forgive the addition of a couple omissions of loving and quite significant souls who deserve mention: Nora & Sam of Newport, DE, Marion’s foster parents for her early childhood, a couple who lovingly and without fanfare or recognition cared for Marion’s needs, providing the stable, safe and loving home to her when others were not able. Victoria Dixon of Clayton, DE, Marion’s brother John’s fiancée and life partner. Vicki and John mourn Marion’s loss as dearly as all of us do. My sister Marion lived her life on her own terms, she was the bravest woman I ever knew. She deserved better, as any of us do. Marion was the most fascinating person I ever met. My first playmate. My first friend. Thank you Beverly for caring for her. May you find comfort as well. God help and bless us all. Marion (“Antoinette”) Simpson Raczkowski, rest in peace and love. ♥
