Marlene Ingrid (Weber) Jackson, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Marlene, daughter of George Frederick Weber and Anna Benson Weber, was born and raised in Philadelphia on June 10,1932. She graduated from Girl’s High and the Lankenau School of Nursing. While helping out at her parents’ corner store, she met her husband, John, a teacher at Shawmont Elementary School across the street. After marrying, she moved with him and their young family to Delaware in 1959. Marlene had a long career as a Registered Nurse starting at Lankenau Hospital of Philadelphia, then the Memorial Hospital of Wilmington, and retiring from the Christiana Care Health System of Newark.
Marlene was devoted to caring for her family. She encouraged all of her children to work hard to achieve their goals. She had a goal of living to be 100 years old, just falling short of that goal, but not for a lack of trying. She enjoyed preparing special foods for the holidays, and spending time with family. She was a member of the St. James’ Episcopal Church, where she enjoyed creating crafts as a member of the Church Bazaar group for over 20 years. She also enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and watching her soap operas.
In addition to her parents, she has joined her loving husband of 49 years John Wells Jackson III, who passed in July 2002; father Thorval Meisel of Norway; brothers Thomas and Frederick Weber; and their wives Helen and Mary Weber; son-in-laws Scott Henry, husband of daughter Karil, and Anthony Dello Buono, husband of daughter Kimberly; and niece Mary Weber Bottoms.
She will be deeply missed by her six children Karen M. Selvage (Glenn) of Elkton and her children Jason Rose (Jenn) and Christopher Rose (Kira), Kristina A. Jackson of Newark and her children Mei Lin Jackson and Kai Li Jackson, Karil E. Henry of Elkton, Kimberly F. Mynuk-Dello Buono of Newark and her children Vincent Mynuk (Ginger) and Victoria Mynuk, John W. Jackson IV of Newark and his children John W. Jackson V and Luke Jackson, and Kathryn M. Jackson of Newark; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Marlene’s life was enriched by the many dear friends and people she met throughout her life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Mill Creek Hundred, 2106 St. James Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will follow in the St. James’ Episcopal Church Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held before the service from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE 19711.
