Martin P. Deery
Mr. Martin P. Deery, known fondly as “Marty,” age 57, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Deery was born in Wilmington on December 16, 1953. He was a graduate of De La Warr High School and would go to serve his country proudly in the Delaware Army National Guard.
In civilian life, Mr. Deery made his career with Teamsters Union Local 326 and worked for Certified Concrete in New Castle. He was also a dedicated firefighter and EMT with the Holloway Terrace (where he was a Life Member), Goodwill, and Port Penn Fire Companies.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Deery greatly enjoyed golfing with friends, taking trips to the beach in Lewes, playing shuffleboard, and cheering for his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. He will be remembered most of all as a devoted family man who delighted more than anything else in spending time with his beloved wife, sons, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh F. Deery, Sr. He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Debora Garvine Deery; his mother, Susan M. Castelli Deery of Newark; sons, Martin P. Deery II of New Castle and Michael C. Deery (Jen) of Newark; brother, Hugh F. Deery, Jr. (Cindy) of Ann Arbor, MI; and grandchildren, Jocelyn N. Deery, Marty A. Deery, C.J. Deery, and Mason P. Deery.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
