Mary Ellen “Mare” Blevins
August 26, 1949 - January 25, 2026
Mary Ellen “Mare” Blevins, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the age of 76.
She was born on August 26, 1949, to the late Aubrey and Bertha Hillis and was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Manly Harris and Mary Harris. Mare lived her life with kindness, grace, and a deep sense of care for others. She was a pillar of strength for her family, exemplified compassion in all she did, and cherished her children with unwavering love. These qualities were reflected in the way she nurtured her family and touched the lives of all who knew her.
She will be remembered for her warm heart, quiet strength and gentle wisdom, and for the steady presence she was in the lives of those who knew her. While her absence is deeply felt, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace. Mare will always be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Mare was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Gail Blevins, Sr.; beloved son, Christopher Blevins; and brother, Aubrey Hillis. She is survived by her children, Tom Blevins (Nicol), Rich Blevins (Deanna), Jeff Blevins (Cindy), and Jenni Blevins; grandchildren, Bri (Eric), Jeffrey, Christopher, Chelsi, Makenzie, Alaina, and Wesley; great-grandson, Colt; and sister, Judith Ann Hillis. Her family was her greatest joy, and she gave her love freely and without condition.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service for Mare and Christopher will begin at 12 pm. Interment will be held privately.

Tom, Rich, Jeff and Jenny and the entire family, there are simply not enough words of compassion, sympathy and heartache to express the tragedy you all must be feeling. Because of the family being such a strong presence in The Castle, the death of two people so closely together just feels damn near unfathomable.
If I can bring any words of comfort, I simply want to say that watching the video posted, the underlying message in every single picture and video indicated the clear truth of a family that truly loved completely. When you look up Blevins, you clearly see family = loyalty (with a side of mischievous! And that’s for the whole daily!!)
My prayer is that Jeff, Tom, Rich and Jenny cherish every day the beautiful gift of their relationships as siblings. The past two weeks has shown us just how uncertain life can be and to cherish every single day. Peace be with you and I will continue praying for the entire family.
All my love to everyone,
Jenn Dacey
