Mary Rose Chippendale (née Gattis)

Mary Rose Chippendale (née Gattis), a cherished wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mary was the youngest of ten children nurtured by Raphael and Giovannina Gattis. Predeceased by her siblings Frederick, Frank, Patrick, Louis, Elizabeth, Carmella, Lucy, Josephine, and Ann, Mary carried a vibrant family legacy.

Mary found love with her husband, Gerald (Jerry) A. Chippendale. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with love and laughter. Jerry preceded her in death in 2007. They raised two children, Stephen Chippendale (Stacey) and Lori Ann Carroll (Thomas), and their legacy continues through their four granddaughters: Maria Chippendale-Sprint (Brandon), Erin Corrigan, Noelle Carroll, and Grace Carroll.

Mary’s early years were spent in the Tacony neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia, where she helped her parents run their family grocery store. After marrying Jerry, she continued to contribute to the community for many years as a custodial aide for the School District of Philadelphia.

Beyond her dedication to family and work, Mary found joy in spending time with loved ones, creating a warm and welcoming home, and pursuing her passions for music, singing, fashion, gardening, and shopping.

Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her absence leaves a void, especially in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. A private celebration of life will be held for close family and friends, followed by a private burial with immediate family.
