Michael E. “Mikey” Thompson, Jr., age 21, of Smyrna, DE, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
Born in Newark, DE on August 12, 2002, he was a son of Michael E. and Reagan M. (Hemphill) Thompson, Sr. Mikey was a graduate of Smyrna High School in 2020. During his time in school, he loved performing in the school’s marching band drumline.
Following in his family’s tradition, Mikey was an honorary member of Minquadale Fire Company and Clayton Fire Company. He loved watching sports in his spare time, and relished every opportunity to cheer on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Mikey also enjoyed watching professional wrestling and listening to music. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and loved his brother, Hunter, and the close bond they had.
Mikey was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert J. and Cheryl A. Thompson, Sr.; and maternal grandfather, David “Moose” Hemphill. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Reagan Thompson, Sr.; brother, Hunter D. Thompson; maternal grandmother, Patricia A. Hemphill; aunt, Christina Hemphill; uncles, Robert J. “Joey” Thompson, Jr. (Kelly) and Brian N. Thompson, Sr. (Kimberly); cousins, Karley, Brian Jr., Caleb, and Noah; Godmother, Dee Kauffman; best friends, Josh Bovee, Avery Thompson, and Lacey Arment; maternal great-grandparents, Timothy and Ethel Lewis; beloved Pitbull, Max; and many extended cousins.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the Clayton Fire Hall, 300 East Street, Clayton, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 12 pm. The family requests that guests wear casual clothing or wear their favorite sports attire. Inurnment will be held privately.

Megan said that Mikey was in almost all her elementary school classes at Clayton elementary and she always remembers how he would put a smile on her face almost every day. She said he just knew how to make people happy and he always made her smile and happy in his presence. He is loved by so many.
