Michael Vincent “Mikey” Tiberi

March 19, 1988 - May 11, 2022

It is with tremendous sadness that our son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, Michael (Mikey) Vincent Tiberi was called to heaven far too soon. Mikey was born March 19, 1988, growing up in Rambleton Acres, New Castle, Delaware. He graduated from Hodgson Vo-Tech in 2006. Mikey started his wrestling career at age 5 following in his brother’s footsteps. He wrestled throughout high school leading his team as Co-Captain to the State Championship his senior year. Individually, he placed in the top 6 of the state earning the honor of participating in the Walk of Champions his junior and senior years.

Mikey’s greatest gift, passion, and love was in the boxing ring, winning the Central District Championship in the PA Golden Gloves at age 15, starting his stellar career as a professional boxer. He finished an outstanding record of 21-1, a goal he set for himself as an amateur. His hard work earned him a middleweight ranking of 10th in the USA. His chanting “Mighty Mike” fans donning “Mighty Mob” shirts rocked the walls in his support at Dover Downs and various NJ casinos. His ultimate record was his finest, claiming the WBF North American Boxing Federation belt in the Super MiddleWeight Division.

Mike was employed by AquaFlow and DelDOT in his early years and CSX and Amtrak RR the last nine years. He was so proud of owning his own home at 23, generously treating neighbors and co-workers to his garden vegetables.

Most importantly, Mikey was an amazing, honest, loyal, compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was always on call to help his longtime school friends, co-workers, neighbors, and family. A man of faith, he always turned to God for strength and comfort. His “gift of gab” was second only to his sincere compassion to listen.

Mike could be found in spare time fishing at Woodland Beach or enjoying his boat fishing and crabbing off Reedy Point, Delaware River, always sharing his catch.

Mike was preceded in death by his pop pop and mom mom; Mario and Helen Tiberi, grandpop and grandmom, Robert and June McCall; uncles, Bobby and Jimmy Diego, and Bobby McCall; and aunt, BJ Timmons. Surviving Mikey with heavy hearts are father and mother, Mario and Debbie Tiberi; brother and best friend, Mario (Ro) Tiberi; sisters, Stefany (Kenny) Krygier, and Nicki (Erric) Stewart; 11 nieces and nephews; numerous Tiberi and McCall uncles, aunts, and cousins; and dear friends, old and new, younger and older, especially his lifelong friend, Zach Taylor.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022, at 5:00 pm at the MOT Senior Center, 300 S. Scott Street, Middletown, DE. Mikey’s family wishes to extend our sincerest heartfelt gratitude to all who have expressed their love of Mikey through messages, phone calls, cards, visits, meals, and prayers to help us through this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38102 or by visiting stjude.org.
