Morris W. "Marty" La Rue III - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Morris W. “Marty” La Rue III

December 14, 1951 - July 2, 2023

Morris W. “Marty” La Rue, III, age 71, of Selbyville, DE, formerly of Middletown, DE, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

Born in Chester, PA on December 14, 1951, he was the son of the late Morris W. and Nora A. La Rue Jr. of Bradenton, FL.  Marty graduated from Claymont High School in 1970, where he was the only man in Claymont High School history to be voted Homecoming Queen by his class.  According to the year book, it was Marty’s persistence of raising more money than all of the contestants to make the prom a huge success and certainly one to be remembered!  After graduation, Marty went on to become a chemical operator for DuPont Edgemoor for 38 years.

Marty loved his morning trips to the beach, surf fishing, happy hour on the beach, and watching NASCAR.  He always looked forward to riding his Harley on road trips to bike weeks to Americade and Myrle Beach.  Marty was lovingly known as the official neighborhood dog greeter, he always had a treat in hand and a pat on the head waiting for the dogs walking by.  Most of all, Marty loved and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Marty is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Patti; children, Marty La Rue (Josie) of Newark, Patrick La Rue (Amber) of New Bern, NC, and Jessi Lawson (Scott) of Smyrna; grandchildren, Logan, Kayla, Becca, Emily, Avery, Emma, Caraline, William, and Joseph; and sister, Dotti Christeson of Selbyville.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 pm on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a celebration of life will begin at 12 pm. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marty’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or by clicking here.
