Mr. Lee Ronald Henderson, age 72, of Middletown, DE, departed this life on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in Delaware.

Born in Dover, North Carolina on July 6, 1951, he was a son of the late Isaac M. Henderson and the late Dorothy C. Henderson. Lee was a dedicated husband to his wife, Ellen, for 53 years and loved her dearly. He was a wonderful father and provider, and a wise mentor to his children, Lee and Elizabeth. He provided them with sound advice that they can carry throughout their lives. After 20 years, Lee retired from the New York City Department of Sanitation as a Sanitation Engineer. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union. Lee was quiet, kind, and caring and would do anything for anyone who needed help. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed regular golf trips with his brother-in-law, Andrew. Lee also enjoyed doing yard work and loved greeting his neighbors.

His going home leaves behind many loving memories for his family to cherish. Lee was preceded in death by three siblings, Arizona Aki, Charles Henderson, and Vanteria Henderson; mother-in-law, Joyce T. Williams; and one sister-in-law, Annetta McLeod.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Mrs. Ellen J. Henderson of the home; one son, Mr. Lee R. Henderson, Jr. of Texas; one daughter, Ms. Elizabeth C. Henderson of Delaware; one grandson, Mr. Sebastian Lee Henderson of Texas; one brother, Mr. William Henderson of California, two sisters, Ms. Virginia Powell of New Jersey, and Ms. Shirlene Wallace (Alonza) of Georgia; two brothers-in-law, Dr. Andrew Harrison (Terry) of New Jersey, and Mr. John Aki of Hawaii; six sisters-in-law, Ms. Renee Harrison of Maryland, Ms. Margo Henderson of New Jersey, Ms. Mae Williams of North Carolina, Ms. Latisha Williams of New York, Ms. Lashawn Williams of New York, and Ms. Ceasia Williams of North Carolina; seven nieces, Laura Bryant, Natasha Cox, Alexis Harrison, Neshonda McCoy, Qiana McCoy, Akoshua McLeod, Tamika Wallace; fifteen nephews, Andrew Harrison, William Henderson, Jr., Philip Henderson-Cortez, Richie Henderson, Charles Henderson, Jr., Gregory Henderson, Lonnie Henderson, Stanley McCoy, Jr., Bradley McLeod, Nathaniel Moore (Jada), Haywood Powell II, Keaon Powell, Morris Staton II, Daniel Stokes, and Terrell Wallace; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 8 am until 9 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 9 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

  • My condolences to the Henderson family . Lee was my classmate , we graduated from Newbold High School in Ft. Barnwell N . C .in 1969 . Never got a chance to see Lee again after we finished high school but he seems to have done well for himself . You’re in my thoughts and prayers and there is that promise of a resurrection from Jehovah God . Blessings to you all !
