It is with great sadness, that we announce Nancy Haynes Davis, age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

Born in Wilmington, DE on September 3, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Beatrice (Brown) Haynes. Nancy graduated from William Penn High School in 1956 and went on to graduate from Goldey Secretarial School in 1957. She worked as a secretary for DuPont in the Legal Department from 1957 to 1968 and then Aletheia Church from 1978 to 1985. Nancy was our dearly loved Wife, mother, Nana and she will be greatly missed by her loving family and close friends. Nancy was a huge fan and supporter of the University of Delaware’s football and Rugby teams, as well as the Philadelphia Sixers, Phillies and Eagles. She looked forward to trips to the beach and to Williamsburg, VA. Most of all, Nancy loved her family, especially doing art projects with the children and grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite holiday, she always enjoyed having the family around to celebrate. Active in her faith, she was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sisters, Vivian Scannel, and Priscilla Rowan. She is survived by her loving husband, John R. “Jack” Davis; children, Walter Guseman, John Davis, Jr. (Lisa), Lynn Davis (Otto Steffers), Scott Davis (Tracy); and grandchildren, Madelyn, Mason, Parker, Emily, and Katie.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

  • I jus saw this obituary of Nancy she was a good friend of mine from grade school through high school at William Penn .
    all of her friends called her Polly.. I remember many things we did and I new her family well at the time . I new her cousin Patty from the old Conrad Pre School when I took my youngest child Matthew there. She lived on the very first street (University Ave. Wilmington Manor Gardens we lost touch when she started her senior year at Penn ) I lived on
    34 Yale Avenue in WMG . I have often wonder what happen to Nancy over the years now I know, the last time I saw her was in JC Penny `s at Prices Corner many years ago when she had her son in a stroller.   • I forgot to tell you why I was looking at the obituaries in the first place: i was looking for people who passed away in my class or who had lived in the Gardens ,Jimmy G`, Tim Armstrong who lived on University Ave. and some other people including Mr. Reinheart ( I known I haven`t spelled his last name correctly He was in my class 1957 at WPHS alone with
    Jimmy G.

  • Well here I am again 4-14-25 about Nancy (Polly) WE went to the Manor movie with our friend Wendy and The Dog House, sang in the choir at Asbury Methodist Church ! Including the Sun Rise service the church had one Easter She always had the nicest hair of anybody, she was the first one to have a car and her and I loved to carve our initals in some of the trees (that are not on Basin Road is now or the New William Penn High School is on the field we use to call Cow Flop Stadium, I must stope now Im 86 almost 87 and have a hard time typing correctly . What away to connect with Nancys family. Pattie was her nice not her cousin like I originally stated.
