Nancy Lee Skinner

Born: 2/27/1955
Died: 12/26/2012

Mrs. Nancy Lee Skinner, age 57, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at her home surrounded by her beloved family.
Born in Long Branch, NJ, on February 27, 1955, Nancy knew from earliest childhood that she wanted to become a nurse, a vocation about which she remained passionate throughout her life. She received her initial nursing certification through the Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia and would go on to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Wilmington University. In her current position as a staff development specialist for labor and delivery at Christiana Hospital, Nancy was inspirational to other young nurses as she educated them to become skilled and compassionate maternity professionals.
Nancy delighted in spending time with her family, especially her precious grandson, Liam, by whom she was affectionately known as “CeeCee.” She was a talented artist and was very proud to have assisted in the renovation of her lovely 233-year-old historical home in Wilmington. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach, particularly at the Jersey Shore and in her favorite vacation spot, Aruba.
Nancy was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Wilmington.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 31 years, George W. “Bill” Skinner, in 2008. She is survived by her children, Courtney Skinner of Wilmington, William Skinner and wife Tara of Wilmington, Carolyn Skinner of Wilmington, and Andrew Skinner of Herndon, VA; parents, Alden L. West, Sr. and Norma Rice West of West Long Branch, NJ; sister, Carolyn W. Moro and husband JR of Oceanport, NJ; brother, Alden L. West, Jr. and wife Trudy of Laurel Hills, CA; grandson, Liam George Skinner; sister-in-law, Florence Denny of Cudjoe Key, FL; niece, Allee Moro of Oceanport, NJ; nephew, Garrett Moro of Oceanport, NJ; and her pet dog, Rowan. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to family members and friends for their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 4, 2013, at Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 503 Duncan Road, Wilmington. A reception will follow at the Skinner family residence at 1503 Ridge Road in Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, 1901 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
