Nicole Lynn Peters

January 19, 1984 - June 13, 2021

On the early morning of Sunday, June 13, 2021, Nicole Lynn Peters, age 37, of Middletown, DE, passed away in a tragic automobile accident on her way to work.

Born in Wilmington, DE on January 19, 1984, she was a daughter of Mark E. and Kimberly A. (Stratton) Peters. Nicole immediately began enjoying life in her Marine Corps family and grew up in several places she called home including Quantico, VA, Pensacola, FL, southern California, Kaneohe Bay, HI, and Middletown, DE. She graduated from Poway High School in 2002, Palomar College in 2004, and UCSD in 2006. While in school, Nicole enjoyed working at the San Diego Wild Animal Park, and internships at Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program in San Diego.

Nicole obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology: Ecology, Behavior and Evolution from the University of California, San Diego. Nicole was in search of the perfect career and was not afraid to try a wide variety of occupations from working with animals, education, sales, and most recently in the hotel industry.

When she was not working, she enjoyed any time spent with family and friends, traveling, playing cards, feeding wildlife in the backyard (particularly the “Elusive” hummingbirds), and caring for Merlin, our Labrador retriever.

She is dearly loved by her family and friends. We all deeply and personally mourn Nicole’s untimely passing and are overwhelmed with gratitude from the great memories, experiences, sympathy, and love that all have shared. We are grateful to have had Nicole as part of our lives.

In addition to her parents, Nicole is survived by her siblings, Mark A. Peters and Leslie A. Norrie (Thomas); nieces, Adelaide and Emilia Norrie; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Lynn Peters; maternal grandparents, Robert and Barbara Stratton; uncles, Wayne Peters (Kathy) and Donald Stratton; aunts, Dawn Mease (Dave), Brenda Senseny (Kevin) and Susan Mitchell (Jeff); and many loving cousins, relatives and friends.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 12 noon until 1 pm on Friday, June 25, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a Celebration of Life will begin at 1 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nicole’s memory to Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804 or online by clicking here.

  • My intro to Nicole, was at Whiting, I stopped by to meet with Mark and got there early. She was one of the in high chairs being fed their breakfast. All cute and adorable but Kim still managed to keep them in their chairs and on schedule. Years later we were newly weds in Hawaii and were going out after dinner on Nicole’s birthday. She met me at the door and informed me it was her birthday. She brought me into the room and the biggest recliner and told me to sit while she got her new barbies. She came back and elbowed my leg out of her way as she climbed up on the arm of the chair to show me her new barbies and what she liked about each and what to look for just in case we stopped to buy another while we were out. My wife was still trying to train me and welcomed her help. As a father of daughters, I looked to those who could serve as role models for mine to follow. Nicole was one of those entrusted with their care. Raising girls isn’t easy but ours had plenty of the right kind of barbies and the best of role models. Thank you Nicole for sharing yourself, you’ll be missed. God bless you and keep you now and forever more.

  • I am at a loss for words for this, in the short time I’ve known you, you were nothing short of a great friend and person. I’ll forever keep our memories of our phone conversations and our laughs and fun we had in DC. I’ll try not to cry over this, just laugh and smile over our memories we had.

  • Peters family. I first met Nikki in Middle school. She talked of Hawaii and how she wanted to go back so often, I wanted to go. We even went to Junior prom and after prom together and had an awesome time. She was crazy, fun, always up for a good time. She was unapologetically herself, she was authentic.
I am very sorry for your loss.
