Norman R. “Norm” Quillen III

Norman R. “Norm” Quillen III, age 70, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Born in Wilmington, DE on February 15, 1956, he was a son of the late Norman R. and Esther M. (Davis) Quillen, Jr. Norm attended De La Warr High School and made his career with Local 42 in New Castle until his retirement.
Norm’s greatest passion was for classic cars. A self-proclaimed “Ford guy” he was especially proud of his 1966 Ford Fairlane that was named “Suzi-Q.” In his younger years, Norm dabbled in autobody work and painting. He spent countless hours fixing and helping with anyone’s cars that needed to be repaired. Most recently, Norm loved putting together jigsaw puzzles. He enjoyed being a member of the Rod and Gun Club, Sons of Italy-St. Gabriel’s Lodge, and St. Anthony’s Club.
Norm lived on the main road of his neighborhood and often times had friends and family pullover to ask him to check on their cars or help with a project. His response was always “Sure honey, what do you need? I can give you a hand.” He was the neighborhood watchman for all his elderly neighbors; making sure they had assistance with snow removal, cutting grass, and bringing newspapers to their door. Norm will always be remembered for his big heart and altruistic nature. He was endlessly dedicated and loyal to those he loved, especially family, because his family meant everything to him.
In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda L. Quillen; sister, Maryalice “Peachy” Klingler (Lou E.); grandparents, Leon and Mary (McGrellis) Heller and Norman R. and Miriam (Parcels) Quillen, Sr.; and his cousin whom he loved more like a brother, Paul A. Novello. He is survived by his son, Michael P. Quillen of New Castle; grandchildren, Brendan Quillen of Newark and Cheyanne Halter (William Ford); great-grandchildren, Liam and Ariana, both of Newark; sisters, Marie Hannah (Bill) of Millsboro and Denise Rodowicz (John) of Newark; dog, Lexie-Lu; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norm’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. As much as I try I can not come up with the right words to express how heartbroken we are to lose such a true friend. Norman was there the day I met Bobby 47 years ago. I’ll never forget that day. I saw their friendship then and I saw it grow thru lots of important events, and fun times in our life. He was the kind of guy that if you needed him he would be there. Just like the day he came out in a snowstorm to give us a ride home from the hospital.
