Patricia Ann “Pat” Romano

April 19, 1945 - July 15, 2021

Patricia Ann “Pat” Romano, age 76, of Milton, DE, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021.

Born in Bronx, New York on April 19, 1945, she was a daughter of the late John and Pauline (Whitehouse) Pittelli. Pat graduated from Bethpage High School and soon after became a hairdresser.  She eventually married, enjoyed raising and caring for her family and many friends.  She decided to follow her passion of caring for others by earning her Nursing degree later in life, while her children were still attending grade and high school.  Pat worked at Brunswick hospital on Long Island before relocating to Virginia, where she spent the majority of her career years working at Sentara Obici Hospital as a psychiatric nurse, eventually retiring to Delaware.

In her leisure time, Pat enjoyed spending time with family and friends, caring for her many pets, reading, listening to music, line dancing, playing scrabble, cards and making any event she planned special.  She was an amazing cook and loved her movies and popcorn.  In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, playing bar bingo at the American Legion and her greatest joy, being a Grandma.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her sister, Sandy Sokolski and brother-in-law, Stan.  She is survived by her daughter, Kim Romano; son, John Romano; daughter-in-law, Michelle; granddaughter, Gianna; nephew, Mike Sokolski; nieces, Kris Sokolski (Brad) and Sue Patuano (Ray); great nephews, Michael, Mason and Quinn; and great niece, Kayla.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm. Interment will be held privately. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Drive, Ste 101, Newark, DE 19713 or American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

  • My dear Pat. Your name came up in a conversation today with my wife, Carol whom you nicknamed Judy. I searched and found you, not on earth, but in the land of forever life. But as we hold spiritual hands, we can go back to those years we spent together behind the locked doors of 3-East. How often did I protect you and the other nurses from an out-of-control patient? Too many to think about. I was in my mid 40s. Now, here I am writing to you, and I just had my 82nd birthday. My last contact with you in Chesapeake was when we crossed paths at the Dollar General Store. We shared some casual conversation about what was going on in your life and others from the Obici days; a hug and then you were gone. And now I’ve found you again after your final Capping. Rest well. You were a Nurse for a long time, and you deserve it. The 11-7 has ended. You are safely home, and I’m retired, but the distance between heaven and earth is not too great to have had this visit with you. Judy says hello.
