Peter George Kearney, age 53, of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly while surrounded by close friends at a music event in Dewey Beach, DE, on Sunday, July 7, 2024.
Born in Red Bank, NJ on July 27, 1970, he was a son to the late George E. and Joanna M. (Zack) Kearney. Peter grew up in Leonardo and Middletown, NJ, attending St. Agnes and then Christian Brothers Academy before he moved to Wilmington, DE, where he attended college and remained until his passing.

Peter was a devoted family member and friend, cherished for his kind heart, generous spirit, and great sense of humor. A passionate music enthusiast, he loved building beautiful electric guitars and sharing his creations with others. He was a fantastic cook, always making the best mashed potatoes and stuffing for Thanksgiving. Peter loved his furry friends, especially his dogs Wilco and Georgia.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, George and Joanna Kearney of Middletown, NJ. He is survived by his wife, Shannon Kearney; brothers, Scott (Nicky) and Mark Kearney; sister, Tina Kearney; and niece, Amelia Kearney.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, 103 Center Avenue, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am. My deep and sincere sympathies to the Kearney family, including my daughter Amelia for the loss of one of the kindest and most empathic people I have known on this journey we call life. During the most difficult of times, Pete engaged me with humanity, which will stay with me forever. I was most heartened to see the bond that he and Amelia developed and the genuine joy she expressed about her uncle. The journey is transformed. “Walk good,” Pete.

Pete had such a clever sense of humor he was someone who could always make you crack up with a comment. Such a shame that he passed so early. I know that I along with many of our Lambda Chi fraternity brothers who have known Pete for 35 years or so feel the same way and will miss him.

I hadn’t seen Pete in maybe twenty years but reconnected a few years ago and had the pleasure of getting in some golf outings and a few cook outs at his house. He was one of those friends everyone should have like you just picked up where you left off and it was as if there had been no time passing between encounters. Along w/ the other fraternity brothers sending condolences, we are truly sorry for your loss.

Such tragic news- my deepest sympathies to the Kearney family and all those feeling the impact of this loss. Pete was the kind of friend everyone strives to be. He was generous in so many ways and will be missed by many. I have great memories of Pete from the golf course, spending time listening to music together, cooking, and of course playing cards. Eternal Rest to you Brother.

Pete was a good friend and LXA brother of mine. Although I haven’t seen him in 30 years, I found this sad news today, and I can only recall the fondest of memories of knowing this great person during my college years. I too am an engineer and that was something we shared in college as well. My deepest condolences to Pete’s family, friends and our brothers. Keep smiling Pete!
