Mr. Raymond Edward Jones, Sr., “Pecker”, age 78, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012.
Mr. Jones was born in Wilmington on July 12, 1934 and was a graduate of P.S. duPont High School. Admired throughout his life for his strong work ethic, he began his career at the young age of 12, earning 2 cents per bag selling peanuts at the original Blue Rocks stadium. He was employed as a sanitation engineer for the City of Wilmington and would later accept a position as a salesperson and driver for the Pepsi Cola Company, where he retired after 37 years.
His many hobbies included shooting pool, bowling, playing poker, and shopping for bargains at yard sales and flea markets. He was an active member of the Pulaski Legion in Wilmington and affiliated with the 11th Ward.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nadine. He is survived by his children, Raymond Edward Jones, Jr. (Lisa), Roy William Jones (Tao Wang), and Donna Marie Jones; grandchildren, Kimberly, Melissa, and Justin; his pet dog, Buster; and his daughter’s pet cat, Pretty Girl.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, October 19th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 20th, at the funeral home, where a second visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Lombardy Cemetery in Wilmington.
