Richard Allen “Rick” Altvater
June 9, 1949 - February 2, 2023
Richard Allen “Rick” Altvater, age 73, of Morehead City, NC, passed away and went home to the Lord on Thursday, February 2, 2023.
Born in West Grove, Chester County, PA on June 9, 1949, he was the son of the late Carl and Hazel Altvater. Rick was a hard-working man who believed in getting his hands dirty and living life to the fullest. He served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Army. He was a no-nonsense type of guy who could tell you the answer to any possible problem you may have in life and almost every time he was right. From fixing a boat to building anything that required tools, Rick was the man to go to for direction.
During his life Rick had many talents, loves, and hobbies. He was a business owner, carpenter, and jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed the beach. His home in Morehead City, North Carolina was the vacation destination of all his friends and family. His absolute passion was playing guitar and singing for them. So often during barbeques or other gatherings, Rick would appear with guitar in hand to entertain all within earshot. Above all Rick’s biggest love in life was his friends and family. He cherished every moment that he spent with them.
Rick is survived by his companion, Sue Montgomery; daughters, Sommer Altvater, Amber Altvater, and Julie Wolfe; and grandchildren, Grayson, Autumn, Johnny, Ava, Mckenzie, Michael, Kadence, Chadd, Ryan, Brandon, Gage, Stacey, David and Angel.
A graveside service for friends and family will begin at 11 am on Monday, February 13, 2023, in Gracelawn Memorial Park – Eternal Court, 2220 North Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help offset Rick’s funeral expenses to the Go Fund Me page created by his family by clicking here.
May He Rest in Peace

We are sadden to just learn of Rick’s passing. Such a wonderful friend and Carpenter. Rick did many of our projects at our condo in Atlantic Beach and always was a gentleman and became a true friend. Always had coffee and pastry before starting our projects
He was a great guy and we will miss him dearly.
