Richard T. “Pop” Reusch, Sr.
January 14, 1948 - November 8, 2025
Richard T. “Pop” Reusch Sr., age 77, of New Castle, DE, died on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, after a short illness at Christiana Care, Newark, DE.
Born in Wilmington, DE on January 14, 1948, he was a son of the late Willard Arthur and Alice Mae (Jefferson) Reusch, Sr. Pop was a graduate of William Penn High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1967 to 1970. After his time in the Army, Pop began serving in the Delaware Army Reserve and Delaware Army National Guard. He dedicated 23 years of service, retiring in 1995 from the 198th Signal Battalion in Newport, DE. Pop also recently retired from Allied Universal Security after a 16-year career with the company.
Pop loved to travel, one of his favorite places was Maine to see his daughter. He always looked forward to his next cruise and visiting to Disney World. Pop wasn’t much of a talker, but enjoyed a good laugh. Pop was especially proud to be the Bocce coach for the Special Olympics Delaware. Some of his winning team earned an entry to the Special Olympics World Summer Games of 1995 in Connecticut
In addition to his parents, Pop was preceded in death by his son, Richard T. Reusch Jr.; brother, Willard A. Reusch; and daughter-in-law, January Reusch. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon (MacCord) Reusch; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Dunbar (Robert) of Otisfield, ME; son, Robert T. Reusch Sr. of Newark; foster daughter, Elizabeth Chalifoux; grandsons, Robert Reusch Jr. and Josh Edgerton; foster granddaughter, Sharon Samantha Chalifoux; siblings, Patricia Brown (Terry) of Blossom, VA, Barbara Merritt Lynch (Larry) of Snow Hill, MD, and Michael Reusch (Rita) of VA; many nieces and nephews, who affectionately called him “Uncle Grumpy”; and many extended family members.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. A committal service will follow in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pop’s memory to Delaware Special Olympics, c/o Wilmington Wizards, 619 South College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.
