Richard W. “Dick” Johnson, age 85, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 24, 2023.

Born in New Britain, CT on November 29, 1937, he was the son of the late Walter M. and Esther C. (Josephson) Johnson. Dick attended Plainville, CT schools and graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy in 1959. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1960 and served an interesting and varied career as a pharmacist and Medical Services Corp Health Services Administrator, serving in overseas assignments in Japan, Vietnam and Thailand. Dick was a life member of the USAF MSC Association, MOAA, and member of the American Legion Post 25.

In 1961, Dick drove home within 44 hours from Texas to marry the love of his life, Liz in Southington CT, which was one of the best moves he ever made. After retiring from the service, Dick and Liz also enjoyed traveling Europe, visiting Sweden, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. They also toured China and throughout the U.S. and Canada.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy A. Smith. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth M. “Liz” (Adams) Johnson; children, Scott R. Johnson of NYC, NY and Kristen L. Johnson of Newark, DE; and his longtime fur companion, Cali.

A committal service will begin at 11 am on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
