Risa Lois Irrera
March 8, 1947 - October 5, 2025
Risa Lois Irrera, age 78, of Newark, DE, passed away at her residence on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Born in Haverhill, MA on March 8, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Mildred (Fogel) Schreiber. Risa graduated from Vineland High School in Vineland, New Jersey in 1965 and went on to build a life rooted in compassion, laughter, and care for others.
She married and was the proud mother of two sons, raising them with devotion while working various jobs that touched the lives of many. Among her most cherished roles were her years at the State School, the historic Funtime Carousel in Seaside Park for nine years, and the Casino Pier Carousel in Seaside Heights for two years, where she was fondly known as the “Carousel Lady” and made many lifelong friends.
Risa served as a loving caregiver to several dear friends, offering them comfort and dignity. Her heart was also open to the smallest of creatures—her daily visits with two squirrels, affectionately named George and Goofy, brought her immense joy. Every spring she looked forward to the return of Canada geese near her home and the new goslings that would graze nearby. Her Norwegian Forest Cat, MJ, was her constant companion.
Risa’s bond with her son, Dante, was especially strong; their shared laughter was a light in both their lives. A devoted member of the New Ark United Church of Christ, Risa was a constant presence in her faith community, where she was deeply loved and respected.
In addition to her loving son, she will be dearly missed by many dear friends, especially her church family.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Risa’s memory to The Asher House, PO Box 3548, Salem, OR 97302 or by clicking here or to Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary, 1901 Shalom Drive, West Bend, WI 53090.

Dante, Im so sorry for the loss of your mother. You were 4 years old when I met her. We had many good times together in Vineland! Celebrating Christmas and Hanukkah, with the Star of David as the tree topper! We laughed and cried. I wish I could have seen her 1 more time. I will hold beautiful memories until we meet again in Paradise 🖤
