Robert Daniel Lentz
Born February 7, 1924
Robert Daniel Lentz, age 89, of Newark, DE, entered the presence of his Savior on Friday, January 17, 2014.
Bob’s journey began in Bentonville, VA, where he enriched the world with his presence on February 7, 1924. He was a son of the late Virgil Edward Lentz and Clarice Stinson Lentz. Growing up in a farming community, Bob often reminisced about the number of baby chicks he tended to, even at the tender age of four. His 7th grade education did not limit his many achievements in life. He bravely served his country between 1945 and 1947 in the US Army, rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant. Bob married his vivacious wife, Eva Alger Lentz, in 1945. Together, he and Eva raised their three sons, Daniel, Bruce, and Thomas, and the family continued their journey to Newark, DE, where Bob accepted a position with Stauffer Chemical. He rose through the ranks, and eventually retired in 1986 as first operator.
Farming remained a favorite hobby for Bob and he greatly enjoyed tending to his garden. He was a longtime active member of Ogletown Baptist Church in Newark, DE, where he served as a church deacon. Bob was a devoted family man and loved each and every one of his angels, his special name for his daughters-in-law and his precious grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. His enthralling stories will remain locked in their memories forever. The family finds peace in knowing that Bob’s 90th birthday will be celebrated with his King. His prayers always ended with a request, Help us to love, serve, honor, and praise Thee, which he did each and every day of his rich life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva Alger Lentz, who passed away in 2005, 2 brothers, his daughter-in-law, Karen, and 3 infant great grandchildren. Mr. Lentz is survived by his sons, Daniel W. (Wanda) of Bear, DE, Bruce E. (Trish) of Newark, DE, and Thomas A. of Rochester, NY; sisters, Olive Plauger of Knoxville, TN and Mildred Zollman of Bentonville, VA; 9 grandchildren, Angel, Scott, Matthew, Kelly, Keri, Rachel, Megan, Ryan, and Eric; 13 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm on Monday evening, January 20, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at the Ogletown Baptist Church, 316 Red Mill Road, Newark, DE, where a second visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

Bob was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He is to be especially commended for raising three fine, god-fearing boys who are all a tribute to his and Eva’s Christian parenting. I will greatly miss seeing him from the choir loft sitting in his special seat each and every Sunday. I’m sure he has received his crown of faithfulness from our Lord. Till we meet again…..
