Robert Lee “Bob” Horsey, Jr.

June 12, 1959 - January 20, 2022

Robert Lee “Bob” Horsey, Jr., age 62, of Middletown, DE, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 20, 2022, after a 5 ½ year courageous and determined battle with cancer.

Born at Castle AFB in Merced, CA, on June 12, 1959, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Horsey and Elaine (Macpherson) Austin. Bob was a Teamster in Local 326 for over 35 years. Most recently he was employed by Trans Cargo LLC as a rail loader until he retired in May of 2021. He was a dedicated worker who loved to provide for his family. Bob enjoyed his job immensely and considered his co-workers dear friends.

He had a great sense of humor that was evident to everyone he met. He was quite the handyman and could repair almost anything. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed watching all motor sports, following current events, chatting with neighbors, and cutting the grass.  More than anything, Bob loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stewart Horsey, step-father, John B. “Jack” Austin, and father-in-law, Donald Slothour. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kimberly Jean (Slothour) Horsey; sons, Robert Horsey III (Stephanie) and Christopher Horsey; brother, Steven Horsey (Ruth Ann); aunt, Rhona Nicholls; granddaughters, Hailey and Hannah; mother-in-law, Gail Slothour; sister-in-law, Karen Conner (Cater); brother-in-law, Scott Slothour (Cyndi); numerous nieces and nephews, a great-niece, great-nephews, and several cousins. He will be missed by his faithful pup, Roxy.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 1 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will be held at 1 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance regardless of their vaccination status. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery, Kirkwood-St. Georges Road, St. Georges, DE.

15 Condolences for Robert Lee “Bob” Horsey, Jr.

  • Kim, Robby, Chris and Steve. I’m so very sorry to hear about Bob’s passing. He was definitely one of the good men you seldom come across nowadays. I worked with him for 7 years at Trans Cargo, and met him at many family functions when his brother Stewart was married to my sister Lynn Horsey. I was amazed when he came back to work after his diagnosis. It was obvious he wanted to max out his pension to provide for his family even after he was gone. That’s the n nd of guy he was, and I was honored to know w him. May God bless you all. RIP My friend.

  • My heart is heavy for your loss my friend. Praying and love being sent to you and your family.

  • Uncle Bobby will be missed dearly, but his memories will always be with me. He always made me and Cam laugh when we would get the chance to go to the Horsey’s house after school (some of our favorite school days). Like Aunt Kim said, he had a great sense of humor which was always clear… and for us it was usually via jokes about his crazy puppers! He was so strong and I’m sure his fight against cancer is very inspiring to others diagnosed, as he outlived his expected time with us. We will miss him ❤️
