Rose Patricia (Eisenhauer) Callahan

December 26, 1932 - March 10, 2022

Rose Patricia (Eisenhauer) Callahan, age 89, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

Born in Hazleton, PA on December 26, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Sterling and Anne (Cheslock) Eisenhauer. Rose was the first born of six children.  She was a fun-loving and thoughtful wife, mother and grandmother.  Instilled with a motivating spirit and strong work ethic, Rose was employed as a teenager at the Federal Bakery, with her mother and sisters. She was also employed by Glaxo Smith Kline and Holloway Tools. Active in her community, Rose was a volunteer with the Holloway Terrace Fire Company, Ladies Auxiliary, from 1953 to 1963 and served as president from 1958 to 1959.  She was also a volunteer and member of Holy Spirit R.C. Church.

Rose enjoyed traveling, big band music and appreciated the arts and theater.  After becoming a grandmother, she could always be found on Friday nights dancing to Frank Sinatra and playing cards with her granddaughters. Rose was an exceptionally giving person, who willingly supported those she loved. She found joy in celebrating special occasions with family and her life was full of love and laughter. Memories of Rose will be cherished and she will be remembered by all who knew her.

Among many loved ones, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John P. Callahan, who passed away in 1994; brother, Larry Eisenhauer; sister, Theresa Smith; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Smith, Bill Knorr and Charles Brown. Rose is survived by her daughter, Dianne Prost (Robert); son, John Callahan; granddaughters, Valerie Leaphart (Adam), Janet Schmidt (Daniel) and Lisa Cannatelli (Dominic); great grandchildren, Jacob and Samuel Leaphart, Everett, Griffin and Rowan Schmidt, and Camryn and Easton Cannatelli; sisters, Eleanor Knorr, Anna Brown and Nancy Campanelli (Paul); and sister-in-law, Ronnie Eisenhauer.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rose’s memory to Holloway Terrace Fire Company, Ladies Auxiliary, 700 West Avenue, P.O. Box 684, New Castle, DE 19720.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care provided by the Compassionate Care nurses after her release from the hospital.
