Died: 2/24/2013

Mrs. Rose Theresa Walker, age 85, of Ocean View, DE, formerly of “The Candy Apple House” in Sycamore Gardens in Newark, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
Mrs. Walker was born in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late William J. Kane and Eugenia J. Sloan Kane. A talented homemaker throughout her life, she would later accept a position with Blue Cross following the death of her beloved husband, Thomas J. Walker, in 1971. She retired from Blue Cross as an administrative secretary after many years of service.
A devout Catholic from her youth, Mrs. Walker was a longtime member of St. John’s-Holy Angels parish in Newark. She was also active in the Maple Valley Swim Club, and, in earlier years, served as the cheerleading coach for the Capitol Trail Football League. A fun, favorite local treat was dining at the former Lum’s Restaurant!
Mrs. Walker remained active in her community by participating in the annual Bethany Beach clean-up and breast cancer walks and fundraisers. She particularly enjoyed her experience as a volunteer for the television program “Extreme Makeover,” as she assisted in creating a new home for a deserving family in Sussex County.
She is survived by her children, Rose Theresa Walker (Russ Mullen), Thomas John Walker (Tammy), Corrine Patricia Bentley (Keith), John Joseph Walker (Paula Medaris), and Richard Paul Green (Darlene); brother, William Kane, Jr. (Beth); grandchildren, Charlene Clark (Paul), Jennifer Frank, Robert Gilchrist, William Bentley, David Bentley, Sarah Bentley, Kellie Walker, Tommy Walker, and Kelly Tidy (Seth); and great grandchildren, Julia Clark, Megan Clark, Madelyn Clark, Lily Clark, and Kayla Tidy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 pm on Friday, March 1st, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, where visitation will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
