Rosemarie E. Cierniak

June 19, 1940 - February 18, 2026

Rosemarie E. Cierniak, age 85, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

Born in Cicero, IL on June 19, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Rosemary B. (Quastenberg) Dlouhy. Rose graduated from The College of St. Teresa in Minnesota, where she met her future husband, Reyn, in chemistry club. Following graduation, she began her career as a phlebotomist, dedicating herself to caring for others. Rose and Reyn were married in 1963 and shared 55 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2019. In 1976, they moved their family to Delaware, where Rose continued her professional journey, working for DuPont and part time at Wilmington General and Christiana Hospital.

Rose was a devoted fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, cheering faithfully each season. She found great joy in cooking for those she loved and sharing her talents with St. Mary’s of the Assumption’s many ministries. Her proudest and most cherished memories were made at “Nana’s Nursery,” where she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Rose lived vicariously through the lives of her children and grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments and surrounding them with love and support.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Dlouhy. Rose is survived by her children, Eugene R. Cierniak (Inger), John J. Cierniak (Kim), Krysia M. Tramont (Ken), and Reynold P. Cierniak; and 8 grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, February 27, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose’s memory to Coffee Run Knights of Columbus, PO Box 595, Hockessin DE 19707.

  • Although I have not met your mother, I know she must have been very special to have raised a such a kind hearted daughter as Krysia. Praying for your family in this time of loss!

  • I loved the smile I received whenever I saw Rose. We would trade small talk and wisecracks before proceeding to church or Knights event. Great cook and passed her recipes on to us. May she rest in peace.

  • While I cannot say I knew Rose well, her spirit and that of her husband Reyn made a huge impact on our local Knights of Columbus council and the many events they led. They both lived their faith through their family and friends and are already greatly missed.
