Rosetta Ruth Benner

August 2, 1936 - October 22, 2023

Rosetta Ruth Benner, age 87, of Bear, DE, moved to her heavenly home in the arms of Jesus on Sunday, October 22, 2023. Rosetta loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart, and she loved God’s Word. Though she was a humble, gentle woman, she was nonetheless a powerful prayer warrior, and only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact all her many years of faithful praying have had on her family, her friends, and the world at large.

Rosetta was born August 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Green and Riney Caroline (Thacker) Coleman. Over the years Rosetta worked as a Tupperware manager, at Avon, and even at a shoe factory. However, her life’s work was as a wife and a mother of six children all of whom she loved dearly. She was raised as a Primitive Baptist and later became a dedicated member of Friendship Baptist Church in Newark for over 40 years. Subsequently, due to her illness, she faithfully worshiped the Lord through Jimmy Swaggart’s television ministry.

In addition to her parents, Rosetta was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Benner; and siblings, Argus Coleman, William Coleman, Kenneth Coleman, Emogene Murphy, Gladys Tucker, Eugene Coleman; and nephews, Michael Thomas and John Combs. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Snyder (Terry), Susan Connell (Robert), James Benner (Kelly), Jesse Benner (Sharon), Sheila Stecher (Edward), and Joseph Benner; siblings, Florisse Thomas, Bobby Coleman, Bonita Stephenson, and Betty Phillips; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 7 pm. Interment will be held at the Green Coleman Family Cemetery in Shelbiana, KY.
