Ruth S. Newton

Ruth S. Newton, age 96, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 12, 2013.

Mrs. Newton was born on March 26, 1917, in Chester County, PA, the daughter of the late Bertram Owen and Elsie Burns Owen. She enjoyed Scrabble, playing word and card games, socializing with family and friends, especially at backyard barbecues and holiday celebrations. She also liked to watch game shows and her favorite baseball teams on TV. She was a talented homemaker and enjoyed working for many years at Kiddie World.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her loving husband, James, of 51 years, who died in 1993; her daughter, Constance; two brothers, Bertram and Donald; and three sisters, Clara, Grace and Hilda.

She is survived by her sons, J. Paul Newton and his wife Cheryl of Jefferson, MD, and Stephen O. Newton and his wife Susan of New Castle, DE; daughter, Joanne R. Newton of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Benjamin, Alexander, Daniel and Molly; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where family and friends may visit after 10 am. Interment will be private at the New London Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
