Scott C. Follett

Scott C. Follett, age 83, of Newark, DE, and formerly of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
Born in Tombstone, AZ, on November 8, 1942, he was the only child of the late Karl and Louise (Sanders) Follett. Scott proudly served in the United States Navy, retiring as a lieutenant commander in 1984 after 20 years of service. Notable posts during his service included being deployed in Vietnam as an aviator, teaching at the Naval Academy, and spending a year deployed at Guantanamo Naval Base. Scott ended his military service at NAS Whiting Field. After retirement from the Navy, Scott enrolled at Florida State University, where he earned his doctorate in mathematics education. Scott enjoyed a second career as a mathematics instructor at the University of West Florida, Pensacola State University, and Harford Community College.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marsha H. (Smith) Follett; and daughter, Jennifer M. Follett.
Scott’s childhood and Navy friends have many stories about his bravery, intelligence, kindness, generosity, and gentle nature. He was recognized by the U.S. Navy for an act of heroism, when he dove into a swimming pool to rescue a drowning child. Scott and his squadron-mates gave the child CPR, saving her life in front of her grateful mother. His daughter found his efforts to tutor her in high school math particularly heroic, although (usually) less dramatic. And she has to admit, she does actually use algebra, geometry, and statistics in her role as an English professor, despite what she said at age 16.
From camping in the mountains of Arizona with family and life-long friends; to swimming in the Gulf of Mexico with his daughter; to exploring coastal Maine and the Scottish Highlands with his wife, Scott appreciated the peace of the natural world. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
