Shawn Stanley

October 20, 1981 - February 18, 2021

Shawn Stanley, age 39, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021.

Born in Toledo, OH on October 20, 1981, he was a son of Grace M. (Wegener) Stanley and the late Goodwyn W. Stanley, Jr. Shawn was a hard worker and always looked out for the best interest of the company, D&H Automotive & Towing, where he made a living as a driver. Customers loved him and he never received a complaint, only compliments on his performance.

Shawn was known for his great sense of adventure, and traveled across and down the country, all the way to Arizona and Nevada, and all the states from New York to Florida with the love of his life and fiancé, Ashley. His true passion in life was the water-the ocean, the shores, the bay, the rivers, and streams; all were his haven. Shawn also loved cooking a variety of cuisines and became skilled at vegetable gardening. He never left home without his fishing pole, tackle box, a book, and hammock that were always stored in the back of “Charlene” (his jeep). Shawn also took every opportunity in the summertime to take the doors and top off of “Charlene”. Duke, his beagle companion, would accompany him for a ride, either around the block, thru the woods, or anywhere the wind blew, just so he could look in the side mirrors and see the blissful look on Duke’s face.

Shawn had the biggest heart for everyone, his family, friends, even complete strangers. He is an amazing human is so many ways. Shawn’s kindness was life changing; all you had to do was meet him and you felt it. He always saw the best in everyone, and would and did everything he could for his tribe. Shawn had so many friends and he grew fond of his uncles, Stan, Chris and Dale over the years. He also cherished his family in Ohio. Shawn loved his father’s family and kept them close as well.

He was such an amazing and kind hearted human who will be truly missed by many. Shawn will be remembered for being a funny, caring, honest, generous and a lovable guy with a heart of gold.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his siblings, Dawn M. Stanley and Steven A. Wegener; nephew, Isaiah L. Stanley; fiancée, Ashley M. England; and close friends that were loved like family, David A. Hudson and Matthew A. Stewart.

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shawn’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

  • Who could have imagined the effect and life-changing experiences this young man, Shawn Stanley could have on so many people. Who was loved by all, but in his passing leaves us with so many memories to carry us through our sorrow till we can all meet again.
It was a great pleasure to work with Shawn for seventeen years and Shawn and I never regretted a single day since the day I hired him in 2004. As time went on Shawn thought of me as a father, I thought of Shawn as my son, and I enjoyed good times with Shawn, Ashley, and Matt through concerts and travel. With Shawns passing, a piece of my heart and soul has been taken from me, because family is more than just blood. My heart and soul go out to Shawn’s fiance Ashley, the true love of his life. They started as friends then boyfriend-girlfriend progressed to fiance and the future was holding the next step in that relationship. To Shawn’s sister Dawn, you’ve been a rock with the heart of a teddy bear and Shawn always loved you for that. To Matt, Shawn always loved like a brother. To the Wilmington manor boys, Shawn always spoke highly of you and loved you all. Shawn’s passing was the hardest decision in my life, we can all take comfort in knowing I made sure Shawn was not alone, we were at his bedside and Shawn went to be with his pop peacefully in heaven. God bless you, Shawn, till I meet you again my son your poppadukes, Dave Hudson.

  • I just love seeing all the messages & knowing that others knew how awesome Shawn is. (Not ready to say past tense ) My brother is such an amazing human. This is a struggle to actually sink in that he isn’t with us anymore. I wish I had so much more time with him. The only thing that helps me get through the day is knowing that him & Pops are together again. I don’t know anyone that had such a huge heart like Shawns. He was truly a beautiful human & I feel blessed that he was part of my life for many years. Not long enough for sure but he’s at peace now & honestly in a better place. I have lots of great memories that are forever cherished. Me & Isaiah will so miss all the phone calls from him especially chatting about how Isaiah’s butt was the first one be wiped. Life is so crazy. Shawn will be missed terribly & things will not be right without him for a very longtime. Until we meet again my beautiful brother. Rest In Peace.

  • Please accept my sincerest condolences on the passing of Shawn. He was like a son to me when my boys, (Michael Molaison, Matthew and Ryan VenDouern), were growing up in Wilmington Manor. He was always at our house. Always kind, friendly, respectful and just a pleasure to be around. I just recently made contact with him on FB and we spent a lot of time reminiscing about the old days. He talked a lot about how much he missed his dad. I will miss him and our chats. Please be assured that your family will be in my thought and prayers during this difficult time. Love you Shawn and will always miss you!

  • Rest easy Shawn, one of my favorite people from the Wilmington Manor days! Sending prayers to your family and friends during this difficult time!

  • Shawn was a good friend of my family growing up in New Castle. We loved him like a brother and he always was so good to my family, especially my mother. He was one one of a kind for sure. Shawn, thank you for making the world a better place and spreading so much love. I’ll miss our yearly check-ins. Rest in peace my friend.

  • Rest in peace, Shawn. You will be missed, but honored in cherished memories.

  • It has been over 25 years since I last saw you, but I still clearly remember your great sense of humour and warm heart. All the love to you Shawn and your family.

  • I had the privilege of knowing Shawn though my daughter Ashley. He was a quiet, gentle soul as you could meet and always had a smile on his face. He had become so much a part of our family and I will forever hold his memory in my heart and mind. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal” …love you Shawn

  • Shawn you will be missed 💜💜💜💜
