Sheila Lyons
January 1, 1967 - October 6, 2026
Sheila Lyons, of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2026, at the age of 59. The youngest of her five siblings, Sheila was born in Wilmington, DE on January 1, 1967.
A loving mother, sister, friend, and devoted dog mom, Sheila cherished time with her family and friends and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She especially enjoyed the beach, spending time outdoors, and creating memories with those she loved. Her dogs, Louie and Shelby, held a special place in her heart and were treasured companions.
She believed in continuing to challenge herself and never stopped wanting to know more. That determination led her to earn not one, but two master’s degrees from Goldey-Beacom College—an accomplishment that reflected her intelligence, strength, and perseverance. Sheila went on to have a successful career, spending the last 15 years at Bank of America, where her latest role was serving as a Vice President Operations Consultant.
Sheila is survived by her children, James Lyons (Alyssa), John Lyons (Christal), Jessica Lyons (Aundre); stepdaughter, Amanda Lyons; sister, Tammy Pack; and granddaughter, Aria. She also leaves behind cherished friends and family members whose lives were touched by her presence.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jason Phillips; her mother, Bessie Sexton; her father, Marvin Shorter; and siblings Rebecca Tinnerello, Lonnie Dickens, and Gary Dickens.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, Delaware in Sheila’s memory, in honor of her love for animals and her beloved dogs, Louie and Shelby. I have known Sheila since she was a teenager and she was a friend of my daughter and son. She was at my house almost everyday , so as you may know I have so many memories. She called me Momom. We got together a few years back and went to a wedding and after that we attended a church event. It gives me comfort knowing that she knew God. She is in heaven with no more suffering, pain and she is at peace. 🙏 My condolences to the family that God gives them comfort, peace and strength rough this mist difficult time.
