Shirley M. Graves

Shirley M. Graves, age 87, of Newark, DE, and a recent resident of Regal Heights Healthcare, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022.

Born in Wilmington, DE on May 7, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Lillian (Kirkley) Matthews. Shirley graduated from Wilmington High School in 1953 and worked for over 40 years as a Property Manager, mostly around the University of Delaware area.

Shirley enjoyed sports her whole life and was a long time Philadelphia sports fan, especially the 76ers and Eagles. She always loved music and dancing, and enjoyed playing Bingo, going to Delaware Park Casino & Racing, and playing Delaware Lottery Scratch Offs.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Graves; and siblings, Dorothy Kracyla, Barbara Dickinson, and William Matthews. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Graves of Newark.

A private graveside service will be held in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
