Silvya (Sylvia) Maria Dreier Horn - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Silvya (Sylvia) Maria Dreier Horn

Silvya (Sylvia) Maria Dreier Horn completed her journey on this Earth during the early hours of Saturday, May 4, 2024, after a day surrounded by her loving family and close friends.

Silvya was born in Germany in 1931 where she spent her first few years growing up playing on the beaches of Warnemunde with two sisters Gertie, Marlis and her beloved brother Noni. WWII robbed them of that serene childhood and scattered siblings and family members throughout Europe. Perhaps surviving circumstances few could imagine made Silvya one of the strongest and most resilient people in her lifetime.

While living in Koln Germany, Silvya welcomed her first daughter Monika in 1951. She married Horst K. Horn on March 18, 1957, and immigrated to the United States the same year. In 1965 and 1968 she welcomed two more daughters Kimberly and Karin.

In the 1980s Silvya decided to start her own company, S.H. Deliveries, Inc. “The Fastest Cats in Town”. She loved that business and was passionately devoted to providing prompt, professional service to all the local law firms and even some medical institutions. Silvya was recognized in the Delaware News Journal for transporting a live human heart for organ transplant between hospitals.

She retired gracefully to enjoy the simpler things in life. She loved spending time with her grand and great grandchildren; cross country RV travel, walks at Longwood Gardens, music, cooking and dancing around the kitchen, chocolate martinis and driving with a Dachshund around her neck so he could see out the window. She will forever be known for her illegible handwriting, her mastery of knitting and sewing and the infamous eyebrow.

Silvya always had a heart for animals, they brought her great joy. Her home was rarely without some misbehaved canine, feline, bird, lizard, or a host of many other animals her family would randomly show up with for her to nurture and love. None were ever properly trained, and they only ever responded to her…and she loved that.

Her health took a turn in 2007 after spine surgery and she moved to Greenville to be closer to family. We were fortunate to find two incredible caregivers, Deloris and Rashida, who helped Silvya with daily living, care, comfort and occasional outdoor adventures until her passing. Deloris and Rashida have become family and we are forever grateful to them.

Silvya was preceded in death by her husband, Horst; and her siblings, Gertie and Noni. She leaves to cherish her memory, laugh at her inappropriate German quotes, and share her stories, her sister, Marlis; daughters, Monika Phillips (Sheldon), Kimberly Berger (Richard), and Karin Roseman (Ken); cherished grandchildren, Tamara, Jim (Shelley), Jonathan, Sam, Emily, and Zach (Stephanie); and beloved great grandchildren, Aaron, Ella Grace, Thatcher, Naomi Hope, Charlotte and Greyson.

There will be no formal service as the family will be honoring Silvya privately.

In lieu of flowers, Sylvia would love to continue to help animals in need so please consider donating to All Mutts Matter Foundation, P.O. Box 281, Weston, WV 26452 or online by clicking here.
