Sylvia Astra (Biddle) Holloway

Sylvia Astra (Biddle) Holloway, age 88, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Born in Wilmington, DE on February 17, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William E. “Gene” and Astra L. (Mesch) Biddle. Sylvia was a class of 1953 graduate of the “Old” Wilmington High School on Delaware Avenue in Wilmington. During that time, she enjoyed serving her community as a member of the Civil Air Patrol with the Delaware Wing, where she competed for, and won, a trip to Alaska. Sylvia then began her career at the Wilmington Board of Education Offices where she worked for 6 years.  In March of 1958, she married Paul Holloway of York, PA.  In January of 1985, Sylvia began working as a recording operator for the Delaware State Senate at Legislative Hall in Dover for 22 years until her retirement.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Holloway, Jr.; son, James M. Holloway; and brother, Wm. E. M. Biddle. She is survived by her sons, William E. Holloway (Cathy), Mark E. Holloway (Sharon), and David P. Holloway (Michelle); grandchildren, Megan (Andrew), Ben (Kate), Sarah, Emily (Drew), Jessica (Kyle), Tyler and Connor; and great-grandchildren, Aida, Dallas, Vera, and Nolan.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 East Basin Road, New Castle, DE 19720, where a funeral service will begin at 2 pm. A committal service will begin at 11 am on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
