Thomas D. Ferrell, Jr., age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021.

Born in Wilmington, DE on March 5, 1942, he was the son of the late Thomas C. Ferrell, Sr. and Florence Ann Zickgraf Ferrell Harris. Thomas graduated from William Penn High School where he also played the trumpet for the high school band. He was proud to be one of the first Green Berets and served during the Vietnam War as an 82nd Airborne Division member. Thomas retired after working for 36 years as a general foreman for the General Motors paint department. He also made his living for 4 years as a supervisor for G4S. Thomas was a lifetime member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed archery, hunting, fishing, traveling, sports and a good cigar. Thomas was also active in martial arts and earned 2 black belts in Okinawan Seidokan and Taekwondo. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy M. (Walls) Ferrell; grandson, Curtis Matthew Clark and best friend, Adam T. Kupis. He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Clark (Jason Reynolds); grandchildren, Alex Clark and Nicholas Clark; estranged children, Danielle Ferrell Gayton (Thomas) and Lisa Ferrell Wood (Harold); and estranged grandchildren, Katherine Gayton, Elizabeth Gayton, Thomas Gayton Jr., Julia Wood and Jason Wood.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Interment with military honors will be held in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE. Face masks will be required for all in attendance.
