Thomas E. Ward, Sr.

With heavy hearts but unshaken faith, we announce the peaceful passing of Thomas E. Ward, Sr. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his devoted family.

Born on January 24, 1950, in Starkville, Mississippi, Thomas was a cherished son to Gladys McIntire and Willie Benson Ward, who preceded him in death, along with his siblings, Larry, Jeanette, and Linda. He is survived by his two sisters, Patte Evans, and Cindy Gephart.

Thomas leaves behind his beloved wife, Gloria, who stood by his side since their union on July 25, 1969. Their life together was a testament to unwavering love and partnership, a beacon of faith and family that will endure through their children and grandchildren. Thomas is survived by his son, Thomas Jr., and wife Cherie, along with their children, Ashleigh, Sarah, and Ethan; his daughter, Rachel; and his son, Jacob, and wife Kaila, with their children, Ella and Luca. Each of them carries forward his legacy of love, laughter, and faith.

Thomas’s journey of faith and service began after he graduated from Rochester High School in 1968. His calling led him to Wayne State University in Detroit and then Midwestern Baptist College in Pontiac, Michigan, where he earned his degree and later an honorary doctorate. Together with Gloria, he founded New England Baptist Church in Brockton, Massachusetts, a testament to his dedication and vision. His devotion to ministry saw the family move to Delaware in 1994, where they established Eastpoint Community Church, a thriving community of faith.

Known for his compelling sermons, Thomas was a pastor for half a century, touching countless lives across the United States. His voice resonated on radio waves and television screens, delivering messages of hope and redemption. His favorite scripture, Galatians 6:9, guided his life’s work: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Thomas was not only a man of God but also a man of music. An accomplished musician, he played in the church band for over ten years and was known for his quick wit and humor. His guitar was a constant companion, a source of joy and inspiration, even during vacations. His songs and his spirit of joy will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew him.

The family invites all who were touched by Thomas’s life to join in a celebration of his remarkable journey. Services will be held on July 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Connection Community Church, located at 4744 Summit Bridge Road, Middletown, DE 19709.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Thomas’s memory to Partners in Ministry, continuing his passion for spreading the gospel and supporting Christian endeavors, by mail to: 900 Vintage Green Lane, Unit 205, Franklin, TN 37064.

Thomas often expressed gratitude for his five decades in ministry, acknowledging the challenges but also the profound gratification of being used by God to transform lives. His legacy is a life well-lived, a mission fulfilled, and a faith unyielding.
