Thomas Edward Armiger, Sr.

April 2, 1930 - February 7, 2021

Thomas Edward Armiger, Sr., age 90, formerly of Newark and New Castle, DE, passed away on February 7, 2021, in Kissimmee, Florida.

Born in Salisbury, MD on April 2, 1930, he was the oldest child of the late Edwin Armiger and Rachel Windsor Armiger.

Tom married Margie Lee (Joseph) in 1953. They lived between New Castle and Newark, during their 36 years of marriage, until Margie’s death at age 54 in 1989. Together, they raised and loved their four children.

After Margie’s death, Tom and Betty Stief, a widow from Essington, PA, made a home together in Port St. Lucie and Clermont, FL for 24 years until her death in 2018.

Tom worked as a textile technician at DuPont in Wilmington for 40 years, until his retirement in 1989. Soon after, he moved from Newark to Florida and lived there for the remainder of his life, most recently at Merrill Gardens in Kissimmee, FL. The workers at Merrill Gardens enjoyed Tom for the two years he lived there.

In addition to his work at DuPont, Tom served in the National Guard for 10 years. He enjoyed taking his family to visit many relatives and also camping. Toward the end of his life, Tom attended Poinciana Christian Church in Kissimmee, FL, with Tom, Jr. and Vangie. They enjoyed great times together, and he loved sharing his favorite hobby with them: listening to country and western music!

Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Junior Armiger; sister, Gertrude Armiger Carey and brother-in-law, Bill Carey. He is survived by his children, Tom Armiger, Jr. (Vangie) of Kissimmee, FL, Cheryl Armiger Woodbury (Philip) of Carmel, IN, Joseph Armiger of Dover and April Armiger Majewski (Michael) of Wilmington; sisters, Amy Armiger Hayman (Eldridge) and Rachel Armiger Horseman (Bill), both of Salisbury, MD; sister-in-law, Grace Armiger of Laurel; grandchildren, Josh Armiger (Michelle), Jon Armiger (Kaitlyn), Jeremy Armiger (Ana), Erin Woodbury Tolan (Mark), Phil Woodbury (Amanda), Kristin Woodbury Quinlan (Mat), Brandy Armiger, Joseph Armiger, Jr., Raven Armiger, Edward Majewski, Aaron Majewski, and Lee Majewski (Brittany); 16 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

Tom was also preceded in death by Betty’s sons, Jack Stief, Jr. and Bill Stief and 2 of her grandsons. He is survived by 3 of Betty’s children, Terri Stief Harris (Dave), Brian Stief (Marcy), Jackie Stief Snow (Russ) as well as Donna, Bill’s widow. Tom is also survived by Betty’s 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, DE.
