Thomas R. “Tommy” Brounce

Thomas R. “Tommy” Brounce, age 73, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

Born in Harrisburg, PA on September 18, 1951, he was a son of Fay (Rush) Brounce and the late Thomas Malpass Brounce. Tommy was a graduate of Gunning Bedford High School in 1969. He then began his career in construction for various companies, before working at Local #74 where he spent many dedicated years as a pipefitter.

Tommy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed being on the water. He spent countless hours crabbing, fishing, clamming, and any other activities he could find on the water. Tommy was also passionate about rescuing dogs.

In addition to his father, Tommy was preceded in death by his stepson, Todd Shomo; and siblings, Barbara Cochron and Gary Brounce. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Carolyn Shomo Brounce; mother, Fay Brounce; children, Aaron Brounce, Tom Brounce Jr. (Crissy), Jillian Jones (Larry), and Adam Brounce; stepchildren, Carolyn Smith (Carmen) and Scott Shomo (Vince); sisters, Connie Welch, Patty Wallace (Wayne), Suzie Weidmann (Luke), and Janice Sheets; 7 grandchildren; and his two faithful four-legged friends, Oliver and Harley.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.
