Virginia Ardenia Joines, age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Born in Burnsville, NC on December 12, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Ephraim and Bertha (Stiles) Black. Virginia was a graduate of Burnsville High School with the class of 1956 in Burnsville, NC, where she played basketball. She worked as a trimmer for Sholtz Mobile Homes for 20 years.

Virginia enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved going shopping every Friday and going to lunch with her dear friend of 29 years, Jean Maxwell. Virginia also enjoyed going to Delaware Park with her husband, Jesse and spending time with family and friends at cookouts and around the pool. Of all her interests, Virginia enjoyed making a loving home for her two sons, Roger and Jerry. Most recently, she enjoyed the company of Tiffany, her baby doll.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Jesse Joines; son, Jerry Joines; grandson, Nicholas Joines; and siblings, Louise Black Silcox, Helen Derby, Ann Penland, Grace Rogers, Margaret Deyton, Hardy Black, Charles Black, John Black, Luther Black, and Ralph Black. She is survived by her son, Roger Joines (Tanja); stepson, Michael Joines (Robin); sister, Dorothy Deyton; grandchildren, Bradley, Wesley, Christopher, and Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Madison; lifelong friend, Jean Mattson; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Newark Cemetery, 20 New Street, Newark, DE.

  • Mom I am so thankful to have been off work with you for the last 8 months, you always been a feisty woman but I really learned a lot from you, I am thankful I was able to be there and help you when you really needed me, I would of did it for another 100 years if you could of still be here with us, your hone with Dad and Jerry now, we love you and will always keep you in our hearts.

  • Wow it has been years since I had last seen this amazing lady who our family was Soo close to and we are truly sorry for the loss of her. Back in the day when our family’s hung out, ( I called her Aunt Virginia) I the youngest of six could do no wrong, lol, in her eyes and I would get plenty of popsicles. From our family to you Roger, we pray and have you in our thoughts (due to leg medical reasons I could not attend) I’m sorry.
