Virginia Grey Ellis, age 93, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

Born in West Virginia on December 13, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Wirt Goff and Violet (McCray) Smith. Virginia was a member of Fairwinds Baptist Church for 59 years. In her spare time, she loved word puzzles, watching game shows, reading and enjoyed knitting and crocheting for shelters. Every day you could find her feeding the birds and tending to her flowers. Most of all, Virginia loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Allen Ellis; daughter, Kathryn Souder; 6 brothers and sisters; granddaughter, Christy Souder; and great-grandsons, Nathaniel Souder and Austin Myers. She is survived by her children, Kenneth A. Ellis, Jr., Virginia A. Souder (Buck), and Larry W. Ellis (Susan); brother, William Smith; grandchildren, Neal, Jennifer, Stacey (Jimmy), BJ, Jason (Marissa), Stefanie, Kristina (Andrew), Tracy, and Kathy (Michelle); 5 step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Fairwinds Baptist Church, 801 Seymour Road, Bear, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn Road, Port Penn, DE.
