William Albert “Bill” Sigmund Sr.

William Albert “Bill” Sigmund Sr., age 90, of Glen Mills, PA, and formerly of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 26, 1932, he was a son of the late William Anthony and Catherine (Sahr) Sigmund. Bill worked as a financial analyst for the engineering department at DuPont Co. and retired after more than 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army and volunteered for many non-profit organizations, primarily as a treasurer, for the Delaware Saengerbund, Persimmon Creek Swim Club and the Newark Day Nursery. Bill enjoyed traveling the world and throughout the United States with his wife Margaret. He was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church before moving to Maris Grove in Glen Mills, PA in 2010.
Bill’s greatest legacy was his love for his family, especially his 11 grandchildren. He had a zest for life which encompassed his love for many things including the beauty of nature, gardening, theater, his German heritage, Pittsburgh Steelers, vacationing in Cape May, NJ, Christmas and soccer.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Dougherty Sigmund; son, Mark Christopher Sigmund; and nephews, Michael and Paul Sigmund. He is survived by his 5 children, William Jr. (Nancy), Daniel (Linda), Kathryn Kamholz (Mark), Matthew, and Richard (Heidi); daughter-in-law, Marie; grandchildren, William (Amy), Rachel (Chris), Erin, Samuel, Zachary, Matthew, Ryan, Margaret (Maggie), Julianna, Mark and Alexander; brothers, Thomas (Marcy) and Donald Sigmund (Joanne); along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 pm on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a celebration of life will begin at 12 pm. Interment will be held privately.
