William Allen George
March 24, 1933 - July 24, 2023
William Allen George, age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 24, 2023.
Born in Wilmington, DE on March 24, 1933, he was a son of the late William Herbert and Margaret Elizabeth (Cooper) George. William proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an engineer at Hercules, Inc. for over 50 years until his retirement.
William could often be found indulging in his newest book, he spent countless hours reading his favorite authors, James Patterson and John Grisham, or reading about war history. He enjoyed watching westerns or action movies like Indiana Jones and James Bond. William was an avid golfer and even won a number of golf tournaments, including the “Super Senior” tournament, with his co-workers at Hercules. In his spare time, he could be found cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. William was quite social, he enjoyed hanging out at the Hercules Country Club and looked forward to playing poker every Thursday night at the Rizzo Wine Cellar. He loved to travel, whether it was a trip to the beach, or visiting new places for work. William and his wife Valerie, always looked forward to their Cancun trip with their friends. A friend to the community, he was a lifetime member of Holloway Terrace Fire Co.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Valerie May (Arters) George. He is survived by his sons, Mark George, Matthew George (Kim), Michael George (Tracey), and William George (Jen); stepdaughters, Valerie Armstrong (Jim), and Tracey Fahey; grandchildren, Liam, Amber, Taylor Lynn, Maggie, Karli, and twins, William and Ryan, Scott, Chloe, Haley, and Dalton; great grandson, Aiden; and brother, Donald George (Kay).
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. A committal service will begin at 10 am on Monday, August 21, 2023, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William’s memory to Holloway Terrace Fire Company, 700 West Ave, New Castle, DE 19720.
