William "Craig" Fromme - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

William “Craig” Fromme

William “Craig” Fromme passed away in Christiana Hospital surrounded by family on January 25th  after fighting liver cancer. He was 75 years old.

Craig was born in Salisbury, Maryland, and later moved to Seaford, Delaware. It was there that he would cultivate many life-long friendships. Craig was active in sports playing both varsity baseball, and soccer at Seaford High School.

Craig would attend the University of Delaware where he majored in Political Science, and would meet the love of his life Sue; to whom he was married for forty-seven years. He later worked for the State of Delaware for nearly four decades as a Juvenile Probation Officer. He was able to have a positive impact on countless lives of troubled teens, and was awarded Employee of the Year in 1999 through DYRS. Craig also created an internship program with the University of Delaware; which led to his receipt of the Alumni Achievement award in 2022 through the College of Arts and Sciences. In his twilight years Craig dealt poker at Delaware Park for a dozen years; laughing, joking, and enjoying every minute of it.

Craig was known for his love of sports, answering to the moniker “Coach.” He coached multiple roller hockey teams to league championships, and coordinated the City Agency Basketball League which was sponsored by the Wilmington Parks and Recreation from 1980 – 2000. Craig organized what was later recognized as the first fantasy football league in the US, and was a true Eagles fan.

Craig was predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Myrtle Fromme, and by his brother, David Fromme. He is survived by his wife Sue and two sons: Christopher Joel; and Jonathan Bret, his wife Jennifer, and Craig’s beloved grandchildren Ryder and Andy. Craig loved his sons and said that all parents hope to live long enough to help guide their children on a positive path; he was glad he was able to do so.

A viewing will be held on this coming Saturday, February 1st from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE, 19709. A brief service will be followed by a reception at The Edge 18, 1 E. Whittington Way, Middletown, DE, 19709.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Craig’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online by clicking here.

  • Sue, Bret and Joel. Coach was one of my dearest of friends.
What made me love and respect him most was his honesty. If you were a friend of William Craig Fromme you had a true friend for life. I will truly, truly miss him especially during the “March Madness” time of year. Sue I know you have lost a husband, father, grandfather but the earth has lost a human being of quality who tried to help anyone who needed. My love and condolences to all members of your family.

give you and your family peace and
    comfort during this difficult time.

  • RIP Coach

  • I am so sad about Craig’s passing. We worked together in juvenile probation services for many years. I knew Craig to be an outstanding probation officer who cared sincerely for the kids he worked with. Craig did everything possible to make sure his kids had opportunities to be successful. I always had great respect for his work. But despite doing a serious and stressful job Craig always took the initiative to bring people together for fun and relaxation. He organized ski trips, fishing trips, canoe trips, a softball team, an entire state agency basketball league, touch football games, and of course the legendary March Madness pool. Even in retirement he organized our breakfast get togethers. All of these things were more than just fun, they helped build camaraderie and friendship among colleagues. Craig was a special guy and he will be missed. Many of us have lost a dear friend.

  • My condolences to the family of Craig Fromme. We were classmates at Seaford High School. What a nice person I remember him as.

  • Craig was an outstanding juvinille probation officer. We trusted his efforts to improve the lives of the youths he dealt with. Thinking of Sue and all of the family.

  • Our hearts go out to your family as you endure the pain of losing your father; your mom losing her husband. We keep you in our thoughts and prayers and you work through this heartache. He left too soon and for that we are so sorry.

  • Sue, I’m so sorry to read of Craig’s passing. We had such fun times at Family Court back in the day. He had such an influence on my sons when coaching them at the Y. Sending you and the boys hugs. Margaret Dougherty

  • My dear friend, In those words you have captured all that was special about your very good man. My mind keeps traveling to your wedding day, outside in that glorious light with your daffodil bouquet surrounded by only those nearest and dearest to you both. It was the first day of one of the strongest marriages I know. You and all your ‘boys’ must be so proud of his commitment to the many, many teens he guided to better, safer lives. I hope that knowing that his life’s work still resonates in those lives, and the joy he had in his sons and grandsons still resonates within them, will bring a small measure of comfort.

  • Jon, Jen, Ryder and Andy
Sending our most heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.

  • So sad to hear of the passing of Craig! He will be sorely missed even though we had lost touch throughout the years.
We had some great times playing on the same softball team at Barksdale Park
in Newark! Our condolences to Sue and family. May his spirit continue to shine!

    Love, Bobby and Aura

  • I was saddened to hear of Craig’s death as we worked in the Children’s’ Department in YRS and I know he cared very much for the juveniles who were under his supervision. He was also very funny. I am sorry we were not able to be at his service.
