William E. “Bill” Wilson
September 7, 1939 - November 2, 2024
William E. “Bill” Wilson, age 85, of Townsend, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Born in Copper Hill, VA on September 7, 1939, he was a son of the late John E. and Eva (Stump) Wilson. Bill came to Earlville, MD at the age of 13 to live with his uncle, Albert Wilson after the death of his parents. After school, he joined the United States Army National Guard and served for 6 years. Bill held a wide variety of jobs until he joined Stuart Pharmaceuticals, now Astra Zeneca, and retired from there after 30 years. He then worked for 10 years as a New Castle County Crossing Guard.
Bill loved traveling, especially back to Copper Hill for family reunions, and anywhere he hadn’t been in the United States. He enjoyed being a part of the lives of his 3 Godchildren and watching them become adults.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Everett Lee Wilson and Ralph J. Wilson; sister, Betty Lou Lupher; wife’s cousin, Chris Slaughter; and Godson, James “Buddy” Hutchison, who held a very special place in his heart. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Lou (Webber) Wilson; brothers, Marvin Wilson and Clifton Wayne Wilson; sisters, Sylvia Carr, Clorine Kidd, Bonnie Travers, and Mary Ellen Hayden; Godchildren, Vicki Lynn Redman and Lauren Jean Fish; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill’s family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Dr. T, staff members Amanda and Perdessa as well as everyone at AccentCare Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion. They would also like to thank Joanne Hutchison for going above and beyond and always being there to offer her assistance for Bill and Mary Lou during this difficult time.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 1 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery, Caldwell Corner Road, Townsend, DE.
