William F. “Gibby” Gibbons, Jr., age 75, of Bear, DE, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on March 21, 1951, he was a son of the late William F. and Margaret (Rose) Gibbons, Sr. In his teenage years, Gibby worked at the Warner Theatre in downtown Wilmington. He was a graduate of De La Warr High School with the class of 1969. He then earned his associates degree from Goldey-Beacom College. Gibby proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. He made his career as a real estate representative at Delmarva Power for over 35 years until his retirement.
An active member of the community, Gibby was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. He loved spending his free time in nature and could often be found fishing, boating, and crabbing in Long Neck. Gibby traveled across the United States, visiting all but 10 states. Las Vegas was his favorite city, and he made yearly trips to Vegas. Gibby also enjoyed visiting Delaware Park to try his luck. He could often be found watching college softball and even went to the college softball World Series in Oklahoma.
In addition to his parents, Gibby was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Davis. He is survived by his children, Leigh-Ann Adams and William F. Gibbons III (Melissa); brother, Robert Gibbons (Judy); and grandchildren, Maggie, Jacob, Nathan, Matthew, Lilly and Hailey.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.
