William Henry “Bill” Bates, Sr.

William Henry “Bill” Bates, Sr., age 77, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

Born in Wilmington, DE on June 16, 1949, he was a son of the late Kenneth Elsworth and Jessie (Verucci) Bates. Bill worked in roofing most of his career, owning his own company for many years.

Bill was an avid WWE fan and loved watching old Westerns. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and spoiling them.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Marie Bates; and 2 brothers. He is survived by his children, Lisa Bates, Joseph J.W. Bates (Nicole), and Kenneth H. Bates (Tina); wife, Trudy Mahan; great-granddaughter, Leilani Yerkes; and many grandchildren.

All services will be held privately.
