William J. “Bill” Burke III, age 70, of Bear, DE, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on February 24, 1954, he was a son of the late William J. and Marie (Fogwell) Burke, Jr. Bill was a graduate of Bishop Egan Catholic High School in Fairless Hills, PA, and earned his degree from Drexel University. He made his career as a network architect in the information technology industry.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Liliane Maria Louisa Josepha Pelckmans Moortgat-Burke; his sister, Marie F. Burke; and his foster sister, Tina Lamborn Hesser. He is survived by his son, William Johan Burke IV; his sisters, Hannah Burke Mauss and her husband Paul, Nora Burke Pentiata, and Mary Burke Walters and her husband Ron; his foster parents, Robert and Elsie Lamborn; and his foster sister, Christine Lamborn Wasylyszyn and her husband Steve.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

  • I’m so sorry to learn of Bill’s passing. He was a good friend to me throughout the years. I will miss him very much, I have very fond memories from taekwondo with him and Johan. My very sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him.

  • Bill was the first friend I made in high school. We spent a lot of time together at each other’s homes in those years and were able to stay in touch in the years that have passed since then. He meant a lot to me and I will miss him. My condolences to Johan and the rest of his family.
