William J. "Bill" Martin - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

William J. “Bill” Martin

June 13, 1945 - May 4, 2023

William J. “Bill” Martin, age 77, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully after an 18-month battle with Leukemia on Thursday, May 4, 2023, while surrounded by his loved ones.

Bill was born in Upland, PA on June 13, 1945, the son of the late William A. Martin and Velma M. (Shearon) Wagner and step-son of the late Earl “Duke” Wagner.  Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War. He dedicated 33 years as a routing manager for Sears Product Services, before working as a food and beverage manager at Delaware Park, where he worked for 7 years, alongside his daughter Kelly.

Bill, everyone’s’ favorite person, loved spending time with and was so proud of all his grandchildren. He never missed a soccer game, softball game, gymnastics competition or any of the many activities his grandchildren participated in. Bill had a great sense of humor and he could always make everyone laugh with his “dad” jokes and funny “Bill” stories. In his spare time, he enjoyed photography, fishing and taking his Jeep to the beach.

Bill was preceded in death by his Uncle Joseph Shearon and Aunt Betty Shearon. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judith A. “Judy” (Stringer) Martin; his children, Heather Martin Roberts (David) and Kelly Martin (Robert Jarrell); his 3 grandchildren, Kyle 22, Emma 9 and Mackenzie 7; aunt, Dorothy Sircy; and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Stringer.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held privately.

  • Judy&Family,
We don’t have the words to express our
Grief on the loss of Bill. We considered each other brothers by a different mother.
We met in the 7th grade and remained friends forever. I remember his 50 Ford coupe, the shiniest piece of patina on the road.
I, too, enjoyed his dry jokes and his SHORT stories.
Nancy and I shall miss him immensely.
    God Bless
    Earl& Nancy
