William J. “Bill” Ziegler
February 21, 1938 - May 9, 2026
William J. “Bill” Ziegler, age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
Born in Wilmington, DE on February 21, 1938, he was the son of the late William and Catherine (Miller) Ziegler. Following high school, Bill proudly served his country by serving in the United States Marine Corp. He started his career as an electrician and then joined the Teamsters Union, Local 326 where he held various positions for over 32 years. Bill retired at age 55 and had an extensive retirement where he was able to enjoy life.
Bill’s quiet strength and unwavering presence left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though he never sought the spotlight, his kindness, dependability, and deep devotion to family spoke volumes, echoing far beyond words. He often reflected that his daughter and grandchildren were his greatest achievements, and to them, he was simply the best dad, and PopPop anyone could hope for. The garden he tended was a source of both pride and peace, symbolizing his nurturing spirit. He found his greatest happiness surrounded by those he loved most, whether spending long days fishing, enjoying family beach vacations, relaxing on the deck with his neighbors or simply sharing stories and laughter. Every moment with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren was treasured, and he ensured that each person knew they could always count on him, no matter the circumstance.
His circle of friends is countless, each touched by his generosity and warmth. While his absence leaves a profound void, his family finds comfort knowing he is at peace.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Morton. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Frances (Ruh) Ziegler; his daughter, Terry (Ziegler) Timmons and her husband Brian as well as his granddaughters, Jillian and Hayley.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am.

Dear Fran and Terry,
I’m so sorry for your loss. Bill was a great man and a great friend of my dad’s. I couldn’t thank him enough for what he did for my dad in his time of need Bill stepped up. My father loved that man. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. There’s nothing good about death but he’s not suffering anymore. Hopefully my father was the first to welcome him at heaven’s gates.
Love Joe Schafferman 🙏
